Treasury in Vienna
The oldest part of the Hofburg Palace, the Schweizerhof, houses the unrivalled treasures of the Habsburgs, among them the Austrian imperial crown, and the crown and insignia of the Holy Roman Empire. Other highlights include the golden cradle of Napoleon's son, the treasure of the Order of the Golden Fleece, and the extant holdings of the sumptuous 15th century treasure of the Dukes of Burgundy. Also on show are charming pieces of jewellery once worn by Habsburg empresses and archduchesses, and pieces formerly in the possession of the Empress Elisabeth. The entrance to the Treasuries can be found in the Schweizerhof, whose name is reminiscent of the Swiss Guard that was once posted here.
