Eisenstadt
Eisenstadt, the capital of the Federal Province of Burgenland, is one of the most charming cities in Eastern Austria. Surrounded by a large number of vineyards it is not only famous for these most delicious wines. The smallest Federal capital of Austria is most attractive by virtue of the numerous historical sights such as the impressive Baroque Esterházy Palace. The Park of the Palace, with its grottoes, water cascades, the Temple of Leopoldine, the Gloriette and the Orangerie, is a unique jewel.
The main street is framed by elegant family residences. The town center is dominated by the venerable Town Hall built in the 17th century.
District of Oberberg
In the urban district of Oberberg, the Berkirche is impressive with its probably unique Calvary and the tomb of Haydn, as well as the Haydn museum. Joseph Haydn, the famous composer, lived here for almost 30 years and there are still many memorials to him places in the city.
Jewish Quarter
The former Jewish Quarter and the old Jewish Cemetery are characteristic features of the urban district of Unterberg. Eisenstadt is also attractive because of the various exhibitions and numerous concerts which take place throughout the year. The most important is the International Haydn Festival, as well as many other music highlights such as the Mörbischer Seefestspiele or the Opera Festival at the old Roman quarry in St. Margarethen.
Neusiedler See
Trips to the Neusiedler See, which is only 15 km away, are tempting too. Swimming, sailing, surfing and horse-back riding are only a few of the pleasant attractions.
